Women get preview of new GMC Terrain Denali at the Inforum 50th-anniversary celebration with a presentation by Mary Barra, senior vice president of global product development for General Motors.

Mary Barra knows the pulse of the car business. In fact, as product chief for General Motors, it’s her job to get that pulse racing. She leads the design and engineering of vehicles worldwide – and is tasked with bringing new models to market in record time. Recognized as one of the most powerful women in business and the world, Mary Barra reflects on her first year at the helm of product development and the lessons learned along the way. Recently, Barra was named one of the “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” by Forbes magazine.

General Motors Co. announced Wednesday that it will offer a 2013 GMC Terrain Denali, complete with a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine, for the Terrain lineup next year.

“Denali is growing fast,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC marketing, said in a statement. “With seven different models, sales for this brand within a brand increased 79 percent from 2010 to 2011. With this in mind, the decision to create a more upscale Terrain was an easy one.”

The new GMC Terrain engine has 14 percent more horsepower and more torque, but GM expects its fuel economy will be equal to the current 3.0-liter V-6 engine, which it will discontinue next year. GM will continue to offer a standard Ecotec 2.4-liter engine in the Terrain and the Denali version.
