Jill Ciminillo Automotive Journalist & Social Media>

I am a runner, writer and an introvert …all relatively solitary things. Which is why I find it funny that I’m the social media director for a broadcasting company. Go figure that no one believes me when I say I’m shy. In another life, I was the online auto editor for The Chicago Sun-Times, and I still write regular reviews for DriveChicago as well as maintain an automotive blog for the Chicago Tribune called “Drive, She Said.”My newest bright idea is using myself as a unit of measure to describe trunk space.

How excited or why are your participating with HerHighway Drive Breast Cancer Awareness?

In 2004 I had a friend who passed away with breast cancer. She hadn’t reached 40 yet. Since that time, it has been one of my missions in life to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. I think this drive is a GREAT idea, and I’m really glad to be participating.

As a woman what features are your favorites in a car?

I really appreciate heated seats and an organized center stack. Oh, and a place to put my purse that isn’t on the seat next to me … headrests that don’t mess with my pony tail … and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

What is your proudest social media achievement?

That @girlinthetrunk went a little viral during last year’s Chicago Auto Show, when both USA Today and WGN ran stories about me climbing into the Ram Box. Wait, did you say proudest … ?

What is your current challenge at work?

Getting people to realize that media is fluid. Today it’s “social” tomorrow it’ll be something completely different. How people want to receive information isn’t always how it’s being delivered. Change is the only constant.

What is your top advice to other women for social media?

Share a lot but not too much. Know that whatever you put out there stays out there. Forever. So, don’t tweet it, write it or post it to Facebook if you wouldn’t want your boss or your dad to see it.

Dream job?

I’m pretty much doing it! Social media director by day, super spy ninja auto writer by night. I love it!

What you do to relax?

Read a trashy romance novel. Or run marathons … when my foot isn’t broken, that is.

Who have you mentored, or/and did someone mentor you in social media to help you get started?

I like to think that I set a small positive example for anyone who follows me on a daily basis. Social media is about sharing and engaging as well as entertaining.
