Who have you mentored, or/and did someone mentor you in this industry to help you get started?
My soon-to-be husband Durhl Caussey had been writing a column for The Epoch Times a few years when he offered to help me get involved with Texas Auto Writers Assn. About six years ago I started driving cars and reviewing them for some local publications and absolutely love it. Now that we are married, we love going on launch trips together whenever possible.
As a woman what features are your favorites in a car?
My favorite features have to include speed, I still love muscle cars and manual transmission (call me old school). But I like luxury touches too, and lots of cupholders. Also love Nav systems and OnStar is my favorite.
Why does the auto industry seem like a difficult environment for females?
I’d always thought of the auto industry as for men only, but have found it extremely welcoming to women these past few years.
Why did you want to work in the auto industry?
Because I love driving cars and seeing the new models before they are introduced. I’ve been a journalist for a long time, and we like being “ahead of the curve.”
First automotive job?
Writing car columns for two weekly Texas newspapers The Oak Cliff Tribune and Archer County Advocate.
Proudest professional achievement?
Last year elected as third VP of Texas Auto Writers (TAWA) an organization whose board had once been very male-dominated.
Current challenge at work?
Balancing my “day job” as publicist for Dallas Summer Musicals, a non-profit arts organization, with my passion for driving cars.
Automotive and Travel writer.
What sports or activities did you enjoy in school or/and currently?
Reporter and editor for school papers through college. Favorite activities include attending live performances whether it’s theatre or circus or concert. Also like Rangers and Mavs games.
What you do to relax?
I relax by reading, mostly contemporary fiction.
