2011 Mercedes GLK 350 Smooth as a Black Dress>

When you want to look good for a night on the town or that fundraising dinner party, you know you can count on your slinky black dress and some heels. And if you want to look sporty and sexy driving around town, the 2011 Mercedes GLK350 won’t let you down.

The GLK350 is beautifully engineered to achieve that rare blend of luxury, nimble performance, and versatility. Unlike some of the men you dated back in the day, the GLK’s standard equipment list is quite impressive: 19-inch wheels, cruise control, automatic headlamps, eight-way power front seats, MB Tex premium vinyl upholstery (looks and feels like leather), dual-zone automatic climate control, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, plus an eight-speaker stereo with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.

If you would like to dress up your new GLK a bit more, add the Premium 1 option package. It will get you a panoramic sunroof (do a little bronzing as you drive), a power tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming mirrors, driver seat memory settings, and satellite radio. If you can’t live without a navigation system and rear view camera, the Multimedia package is for you. In addition to the NAV and camera systems, the package includes an electronics interface, voice controls, digital music storage, an iPod/USB audio interface and a six-disc CD changer.

This handsome and fit Euro-crossover is a delight to drive. Press your designer shoe against the gas pedal, and the GLK’s 3.5-liter V6 responds with up to 268 horsepower. The seven-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, too. Estimated fuel economy is 16-mpg city and 23 highway for the rear-wheel drive model. The 4Matic (all-wheel drive) drops highway MPG slightly to 21.

You are, after all, the most precious of cargo, and Mercedes Benz takes your safety seriously. With its nine standard airbags, the GLK350 was among the IIHS Top Safety Picks in 2011. There are five airbags for the driver alone, and window curtain air bags are standard for both seating rows. Stability Control and Traction Control add to the safety profile of both the GLK350 and the 4Matic — at no extra cost.

Sure you’re going to spend a little more for a sexy crossover with the Mercedes Benz emblem. But as the saying goes…you get what you pay for. We loved driving the GLK350 and we think you will too. To get the full scoop on pricing, options, warranty and dealer availability, click here.
