2011 Jeep Liberty Free to Go Wherever>

Even though you may not think about it very often, it’s a good to know that your versatile SUV has four-wheel drive capabilities; and it can take you and your mysterious companion on a grand adventure at the drop of a hat. Owners of the 2011 Jeep Liberty are free to go wherever — whenever the urge arises

Introduced in 2002, the new trail rated Jeep Liberty has come a long way in terms of quality, comfort and off-road capability. Inside, the Liberty has seating for five, plus a configurable cargo area that’s ideal for stowing stuff — groceries, Bloomingdales bags, garden supplies or sporting gear. With the rear seats upright, this mid-size SUV gives you 26.1 cubic-feet of storage space. But fold the seats down and that space expands to an impressive 62.4 cubic-feet.

The interior provides solid legroom and comfort, but it’s what’s under the hood that gives this Jeep its spirit. The Liberty’s 3.7-liter V6 engine puts out 210 horsepower that comes in handy if you’re running late for a scheduled rendezvous or relaxing yoga class. Unlike many mid-size crossovers that drive and ride more like a car, the Liberty’s off-road suspension feels a bit more truck-like.

Equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission (most women want the shifting done for us) the Liberty gets about 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway in the two-wheel-drive version and 15 city, 21 highway for the four-wheel-drive edition. Not great mileage numbers, but still respectable for an SUV that does its best work off the beaten path. On the upside, the Liberty only requires regular (87-octane) gas, so you’ll never have to pay premium prices at the pump.

You simply can’t have a great road trip without good tunes. The Liberty’s Sirius satellite radio sound system has you covered. In addition to commercial free radio stations, it boasts an auxiliary input jack so you can pump in your favorite songs and play lists from your iPod or other MP3 player. In the safety department, the 2011 Liberty comes standard with antilock disc brakes, stability control, active front head restraints and side curtain airbags.
