HerHighway’s female automotive experts got wild in the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8, but we do have to hand it to our editor, she only toasted one set of tires! We laughed until we cried driving the 470 HP HEMI® all out. “This car just does not want to sit idle,” stated Christina Selter, HerHighway’s Editor in Chief. “The 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8…SHE just wants to go go go!”
Imagine having 470 beautiful wild horses under your hood that want nothing better than to run wild and fast. Just the sound of that big HEMI does something to a girl that makes her want to throw caution to the wind and bend the speed limit laws just a tad. The power was simply intoxicating! We found ourselves out on the road looking to challenge hapless men in their wimpy Euro sports cars to some good ole fashioned drag racing. But they refused to dress up like women!
All kidding aside, the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is one serious machine — inside and out. Its low and wide stance is accentuated by the cool, white retro hood stripes that were popular markings on many of the great muscle cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s. And those five-spoke polished alloy wheels, with the high-performance red Brembo brake assemblies showing through, complete the package like the perfect pair of shoes.
Even the interior has a classic retro feel. Our beautiful SRT8 tester had white leather seats with cool blue strips and stitching. We also loved the way the blue lighting created the perfect glow on the black on white instrument gauges, and the pistol grip shift knob added to that outlaw vibe. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, side airbags and side-curtain bags. Speaking of bags, the trunk in the 2012 Challenger is cavernous, capable of carrying your entire collection of designer shoes and boots…and still have a little extra room for some of his stuff.
For our convenience and comfort, the SRT8 comes with keyless entry, cruise control, air conditioning, power foldaway mirrors and a CD/MP3 sound system with auxiliary input.
Additional fun features that are packaged in the SRT8 trim level include HID headlamps, power heated mirrors, a remote start system, heavenly heated leather seats, a media center with a hard-drive, and a butt-kicking Boston Acoustics sound system.
These days, more women are falling in love with the new generation HEMI V8. Thanks to Dodge-Chrysler’s Fuel Saver Technology, the Challenger SRT8 doesn’t guzzle as much gas as you might think. It’s rated for 23 MPG on the highway, which is pretty darned good for an honest to goodness, American-made, road scorching muscle car!
